Caring for your Monarte.

A watch built to last generations deserves the best care. Here is everything you need to keep your Monarte in perfect condition.

Why care matters

A Monarte is a mechanical instrument: springs, wheels and oils measured in fractions of a drop, sealed inside a case built to keep water and dust out. Treated well, it stays accurate, sealed and beautiful for decades.

Most of that care is simple, and most of it is in your hands. When your watch needs more than that, we arrange it for you.

A

Winding your Monarte

0Sealed1Wind2Date3Time

Your Monarte is automatic. It winds itself from the movement of your wrist, and worn every day it keeps running on its own.

If it has stopped, or has been off your wrist for more than a day, wind it by hand before you put it on: unscrew the crown to position 1 and turn it clockwise about thirty times. A gentle resistance is normal. An automatic movement cannot be overwound; once the spring is full, it simply slips.

Fully wound, it runs for about 38 hours off the wrist.

Then press the crown against the case and screw it down to position 0. The water resistance depends on it.

B

Setting the time and date

0Sealed1Wind2Date3Time

Never change the date while the watch shows a time between 9 PM and 3 AM. In those hours the date mechanism is already engaged, and forcing it can damage the wheels.

The safe way: in position 3, move the hands to 6:30. In position 2, set yesterday’s date. Back in position 3, turn the hands forward until the date changes to today, which is midnight, then on to the correct time.

Position 0
Screwed down. The crown sits sealed against the case, where it belongs whenever you wear the watch.
Position 1
Unscrewed. Turn clockwise to wind.
Position 2
Pulled out one step. Turn clockwise to advance the date.
Position 3
Pulled out fully. Turn either way to set the hands. The seconds hand stops, so you can start the watch exactly on the minute.

Finish by returning the crown to position 1 and screwing it down to position 0.

C

Water resistance and diving

Every model is built for its own depth. Before your Monarte meets water, check the water resistance of your model: it is engraved on the caseback and given in its specifications.

Crown down
Screw the crown down fully before the watch meets water, and never use it underwater or while the watch is wet.
Temperature
Avoid sudden changes of temperature, such as a sauna followed by cold water, or a hot shower. Large swings age the gaskets that keep water out.
After swimming
After salt water or a chlorinated pool, rinse the watch in fresh water and dry it.
Testing
Gaskets age whether the watch sees water or not. If you swim or dive often, have the water resistance tested once a year. Otherwise it is tested at every service.
D

Cleaning and everyday care

Case and bracelet
Wipe with a soft microfibre cloth. For a deeper clean, first make sure your model is made for water. If it is, screw the crown down and use warm water, a drop of mild soap and a soft brush between the links, then rinse and dry it thoroughly.
Sapphire crystal
A microfibre cloth and a drop of water are all it needs.
What to avoid
Perfume, solvents and harsh cleaning products. They attack gaskets and finishes.
Leather straps
Keep them dry, and clean them with a dry cloth.
E

Impacts and magnetism

We build every Monarte to take everyday knocks and ordinary magnetism in its stride. It is still a precision instrument, not armour.

Knocks
The movement is protected against shocks, but a hard knock can still affect its timekeeping. Take the watch off for impact sports and heavy work.
Magnets
Strong magnets, in speakers, tablet covers, phone mounts and induction hobs, can magnetise the movement and make the watch run fast. It does no lasting harm. Demagnetising takes minutes, and we can arrange it.
Storage
Off the wrist, keep it in its box, somewhere dry and at room temperature.
F

Service and maintenance

The oils in a mechanical movement slowly age. We recommend a full service every three to five years, depending on how the watch is worn: the movement is cleaned, lubricated and regulated again, and the gaskets are replaced so the case stays water resistant.

If your watch starts to run noticeably fast or slow before then, it may only need regulating.

Service is arranged directly by Monarte and carried out by qualified watchmakers. Tell us what you notice, and you receive an estimate to accept before any work begins. Please do not have the case opened elsewhere: without the right tools and seals, a watch can lose its water resistance.

G

Warranty and support

Every Monarte carries a five-year international warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship, including the movement.

It does not cover normal wear such as scratches, damage from accidents or misuse, or water damage from a crown left unscrewed.

Register your watch in Your Monarte to keep its certificate and service history in one place. For anything else, write to us, and you will hear back from Monarte directly.

A watch for a lifetime.

With the right care, your Monarte will keep time for decades, and one day for someone else.
